The Importance of Rest

This weekend I had a very impromptu and very spontaneous weekend away with Mrs Lloyd.

Literally, Thurday she said to me, ‘we are going away, I have found somewhere and we have got a great deal”.

At first, I was a little annoyed. You may be aware that I play in a function band and this weekend was the first weekend in many where I didn’t have a gig and I had big plans with (finally) getting some closure on some house projects.

A weekend away would spanner that! I had also planned to spend some time at the shooting range with my son too. All of a sudden, my planned weekend would be in turmoil and wouldn’t be as productive as I wanted/needed it to be.

However, the weekend was great. Mrs L had found a great little hotel in Shifnal near Telford in Shropshire. Very close to Ironbridge Gorge (which is a not so hidden wonder of the world) and surrounded by stunning countryside, it turned out to be the best thing we could have done.

When I talk Straight Spaghetti, one of the ‘strands’ is always to make sure that your support network is a strong and as supportive as you need it to be. This weekend away was me (reluctantly) taking my own advice and ensuring that my number one fan and I are both on the same page.

If your closest support network is not supporting you – or you perceive a lack of support – that is one of the biggest contributors of Spaghetti Head and has a massive impact in your effectiveness in running and driving your business. To be successful and grow, you need to have your ducks in a row – one of your ducks is your nearest and dearest.

The builder we used to do our front extension called it ‘re-grouping’. He used to go away to France with his wife to their holiday home and regroup. It’s a great saying and a very accurate way of describing what needs to happen so you are both heading in the same direction.

It is vitally important – to which I discovered myself this weekend. Getting away from the house (that has a to do list as long your arm), the kids (that you love but take a lot of energy), the office (which may well be your sanctum sanctorum – except it shouldn’t) and life in general.

Life can get a bit hard, a bit repetitive or just plain old hard work and a break is a way of just resetting your batteries and ‘regrouping’ to give you the energy you need to focus when you get back to your office.

If you are suffering from Spaghetti Head and you are bit sick of it. Get in touch and we’ll have a chat to start with, make sure we are the right people for you and then take it from there.

In the meantime. Have a good regroup.
